My family lives in beautiful Brunswick, Maine. Here are some of the community groups and projects I support.
Service above self. We meet Mondays for lunch. I’m on the board and serving for 2019-2020 as the Membership chair.
Master Gardener Volunteers
The Cooperative Extension’s master gardener volunteer program involves extensive classroom and hands on training, followed by ongoing commitment as a volunteer to a community project. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in becoming a better gardener. For my master gardener volunteer hours, I spend most of them helping with the Brunswick High School Dragon Garden.
Brunswick High School Dragon Garden
The garden at the high school is made possible by the hard work of teacher Jon Riggleman, professional horticulturists like Kim Bolshaw, master gardener volunteers like me, and energetic high school students who work and volunteer in the garden over the summer. Check it out for fresh organic produce that grows community!
Midcoast Hunger Prevention Program
I enjoyed six years on the board. Happy to report that I was able to help the organization become more energy efficient and install solar panels on the roof of our main building. If you need a meal or want to volunteer to serve your community, the soup kitchen is open six days a week (every day but Sunday) and is located downtown behind Hannaford’s.
One day for the climate: from personal action to public policy. I was one of the coordinators for this event, which brought a thousand people together in the Augusta Civic Center on Wednesday, March 12, 2014.
Maine Green Independent Party
I was the state party treasurer, the legislative analyst, chair of the legislative recruitment and advisory committee, chair of the nominating committee, and served on the state steering committee. I’m planning to run as a Green in 2020 for the Maine House.
NorthWest Brunswick Neighborhood Association
Our local neighborhood association, covering the historic downtown in Brunswick. I haven’t been active in the group recently, but many years ago I was on the board. From movies in the park to the annual holiday party, there’s always something happening in the old neighborhood!
